Busy week ahead..and a new boy in town.
All systems go here at the moment. The media backdrop changes by the day, almost, and we have to gallop to stay amongst the leaders.
The latest thing to factor into the equation is the arrival of Metro, which we have launched in partnership with their owner company.
Metro is a free newspaper aimed at city commuters and is distributing thousands of copies a day in and around Liverpool.
It gives us the chance to attract new readers not currently loyal to the Echo - and there are other potential beneits too. We can partner up on some advertising initiatives, for instance.
The unlikeliest, but I believe it's possible, is that this may spark an interest in newspaper reading among a generation not known for it. It may lead then to the Echo and an affinity with a quality local paper. That's what I'm hoping.
Nice night tomorrow, fingers crossed. Invited by Scottish Power to watch Liverpool's Champions' League match with Benfica. Should be a cracker.
Out again Thursday when Dame Kelly Holmes is guest speaker at a dinner at The Adelphi. The Echo is taking advantage of the occasion to present our first Anthony Walker Citizenship Award to the young person who has done most for their community.
Gee Walker, Anthony's mum, is coming along as our guest, and it could be a very emotional evening. Will do our best to offer her support.
Thanks to everyone who said they enjoyed what I had to say on the Pete Price show the other night. Thought at the time only Pete and my wife listening - until I got home and Lynne said she couldn't stay awake and didn't bother tuning in. Nice to know people enjoyed it. Thanks to Pete for giving me the opportunity to rattle on about the media for a couple of hours.
Gym tonight after work - two dinners this week may take their toll.
