07 Peter Kilfoyle night in
Very positive 9am meeting to discuss publishing plans for the Birthday next year. We have a lot of project ongoing, some with the Culture Company, many in our own right. The publishing opportunities are legion and the strength of our archive is key.
I normally hate and avoid any meetings during the Echo production phase. I won't do a meeting before 10 unless I absolutely have to, because I believe my place is with the newspaper as its pages assemble.
Debrief with the Heart of Mersey charity to wrap up on our month-long September heart health campaign. They seemed very pleased with the level of awareness. We weren't able to commit to a follow-up campaign in 07 because of other projects but we agreed to keep in touch and help them when we could. They are nice guys with a huge and crucial role.
Meeting them was a neat prelude to lunch with Walton MP Peter Kilfoyle. Peter, like me, has had heart bypass surgery, although he is still very much in the recovery phase. It was fascinating to share experiences.
Peter was hugely entertaining and informative. He is desperate to return to full-time duties and is hoping for the all-clear to do so in November. The future of North Liverpool nags away at his conscience as he gets back to full health and at this stage of his political career and after the life-changes that his heart attack has created he seems unlikely to be bowed or swayed by party political pressures. When he returns he will do so with a bang. I am sure of it.
Three hours graft at my desk and out of the office by 5.20pm after a promise to Lynne I'd be home by six.
Played eye spy with Morgan and watched BBC news. ''Something beginning with J, dad''.
20 minutes later and I asked for a clue. 'It's red and it wobbles' she said with glee. 'Not Jelly??'' I asked in a state of mild bewilderment. 'YESSSS' she roared. ''There is no jelly,'' I said. ''Where can you spy jelly?''. ''Daddy,'' she screamed in rage. ''You're cheating.''
Two days without a drink.
