November 13 2006 Lynne Harry

Posted by Alastair Machray on November 13, 2006 6:14 PM |

Lynne, Harry footy.

Pleased to get some family time at the weekend. We were scheduled to drive to Newcastle for a wedding but Lynne not well enough. Consultant rang Friday night and said the brain scan had shown up 'one or two things'. Wouldn't discuss over the phone which I suppose is standard, but doesn't do much for the patient.

Will see him Wednesday night and just hope for the best until then.

Kicked around the house on Saturday, bar a trip to Tesco on way to pick Harry up from rugby.
Morgan volunteered to come with me because she knows BIdston Tesco has a toy section and I'll cave in and buy her something.

She knows how to push all the right buttons.
'Can I have a toy, dad?'
'No love. We're just here to buy food.'
'How 'bout just a little toy??? Because big toys are for birthday and Christmas!'
'Just a very little one then.....'

Worked all day Sunday, except for a couple of hours to take Harry to play football. One classic from the opposition coach as Harry's team strolled to an 8-0 victory.
''FORWARDS!' He screamed at his lack-lustre front line, ''I'VE SEEN MORE MOVEMENT ON CROSBY BEACH''.

Game next to us abandoned because of fighting (including a bloke from the touchlines who rode onto the pitch on his bike to dive in).
Felt for the ref. No doubt in my mind the constant disrespecting of refs by Premiership managers leads to total contempt for them at schoolboy level.

We'll end up with no-one prepared to ref a game because of the hassle and abuse.
Would you ref a kids' footy match? I wouldn't. But it needs good strong people, as well as coaches and mums and dads who won't stand for lip.

I'm a low level qualified ref and wouldn't do it though I love football. Its just too much hassle - and that's just the parents!
Love the Crosby beach joke and will try to remember it and claim I thought of it!
