Complaints Sopranos Halloween Marvels

Two complaints yesterday which need fielding today. Merseytravel who run the transport network across the region have written to the Press Complaints Commission about a story we ran on their reorganisation under new government plans.

And Merseyside's Chief Constable has queried a paragraph in last night's front-page lead suggesting he gave his personal guarantee to a crime victim that his case would be prioritised.

Will investigate today.

A couple of sharp reminders of how lucky I am over the last couple of days and how we as journalists must always work our hadest to be on the same wavelength as our readers.
Last night obviously was Halloween. Morgan dressed up in a skeleton costume and insisted on face painting me.

Six or eight groups of kids came to the door. Nice well-mannered kids who said please and thankyou and didn't cause a scrap of bother. The little ones invariably had their parents with them.

Back in the office and into the mayhem in some parts off the Echo circulation area. Vans set on fire, houses bricked. One family hounded out of their home. Haloween as the Echo's Page three tonight witnesses, is fun for some, fear for others.

Humbling too to attend the Echo's Mersey Marvels celebrations lunch at the Crowne Plaza on Monday. Ten stories of seelfless devotion and unbelievable heroism. People coping with things life has no right to fling their way.

I'm still very down about my brother's death at the weekend. But looking at others makes you slap your own cheek and get on with life.

What some of these Marvels have had to put up with is astonishing. They really make you put your own problems into perspective.

Check out http://icliverpool.icnetwork.co.uk/liverpoolecho/news/echonews for a Mersey Marvels report.

Have finished the first series of The Sopranos. Damn. Magnificent. Hoping someone will buy me series Two for Christmas.

10 days without a drink. Could have murdered one at The Marvels lunch.

After 26 years is the business I'm happier than ever. Every morning I jump out of bed looking forward to work (well, mostly). Home? It's a war zone.
