Reds takeover, Welsh Civic Service; Penny Readings

Busy weekend. Liaising with Sports Editor John Thompson on the takeover of Liverpool Fc by Al Maktoum family in Dubai.
Has to be good news for Reds fans, these guys can buy and sell Abramovich, and while they may not approach the job in the same way they are sure to give Benitez significant funds.
Like it or not, to compete these days requires clubs to open themselves up to global investment.
The secret for Liverpool (and the Maktoums) will be to ensure that the magic of the LFC brand is preserved. The club is worshipped way beyond the city's boundaries yet it retains a homespun appeal. Interesting times ahead.
Proud that the Echo has ignored the countless opportunities to speculate on takeover possibilities. We have waited until there is something trustworthy and tangible before going to our readers. Today's the day.
Between phone calls I attended the Lord Mayor's Welsh Civic Service at the Welsh Presbyterian Church in Penny Lane. Nice to hear Welsh spoken again.
Evening at St George's Hall in the exquisite and newly refurbished small concert room for the Penny Readings.
A tradition stemming from Charles Dickens, who performed in the same hall, the live readings are still offered to the public at a penny a ticket. 500 there to hear brilliant readings from Andrea Levy's Small Island among others.
Radio Merseyside's Angela Hislop read from Jane Eyre, Professor Drummond Bone, chair of the Capital of Culture board read from Byron.

I'd been asked to do something 'funny' so I read from Douglas Adams' Hitchhikers' guide to the Galaxy.
Lovely night - Lynne and Harry came with me, although Lynne tired very quickly and we had to leave before the end.
