January 3 2007 Back in harness

Christmas, New Year.

Highlights of Christmas: Definitely the fact that Lynne had a string of really good days. The steroids seem to be genuinely making a difference and if she seemed to run out of steam towards the end of the festivities then I think that applied to all of us.

She sees the consultant again tomorrow and I hope he'll be pleased with her progress. She was even talking confiodently about getting back to work and the occupational consultant she saw recently thought the end of this month would be a good target date.

It was fantastic to see her well, strong and lively over Christmas.

Highlights 2: Morgan loved it. Presents, attention, the magic of it all. It's a cliche, I know, but to see her little face light up when she saw a stocking on the end of her bed was sheer joy.

She slept until 7.30am on Christmas morning which was great. When she did wake up, she said sadly: 'I've tried and tried to get to sleep, daddy, but I can't''.

Highlights 3: Terrific spending some time with Harry. He puts up with a lot. Morgan demands most of our attention and his mum's illness can be difficult for him at times. He is growing into a nice young man and making me proud of him.

Highlights 4: Getting Sopranos Series 2 on DVD for Christmas. Already watched seven episodes and I can't wait for tonight and number 8. TV at its very best. So good that I had to make meatballs and tagliatelle for dinner last night. (Also made crab souffles which ROSE).

Lowlights 1: MBE for Zara Phillips. WHY? She is already 11th in line to the throne. Giving her an MBE is like giving a cross-channel swimmer a 25-metres breast stroke certificate. Unbelievable and unncessary toadying and I'm sure Zara herself is mightily embarrassed.

Brilliant though to see an honour for former Lord Lieutenant of Merseyside Alan Waterworth who worked tirelessly in the role and was credit to the region in everything he did.

Lowlights 2: The state of Harry's bedroom. Truly evil.

Lowlights 3: Being barged by a succession of vicious octagenarians armed with Sainsbury's trolleys. Christmas is a war zone and these guys take no prisoners.

Lowlights 4: Geting a tin of Werther's Orginals. I hate Werther's Originals.

Xmas photoblog coming up in next day or so. Happy New Year everyone.
