Alan Johnston/missing/help

Journalists get a bad press. Sometimes it's deserved, but they/we are essential.

I am always in awe of, and have enormous respect for, the foreign correspondents who brave the war zones to bring you the news.

Please help the BBC's Alan Johnston. The petition is on the link.

Oh, spell the poor man's name right. It's there in big letters on the banner.

Editors are sometimes essential too. What? You are one?!

Echo Editor

I'm Alastair Machray, editor of the Liverpool Echo. I believe, I truly believe, it's Britain's best paper in Britain's best city. And I'm so proud to be here.

After 26 years is the business I'm happier than ever. Every morning I jump out of bed looking forward to work (well, mostly). Home? It's a war zone.
