Meeting with Comedy Festival team

Had a productive meeting with the Liverpool Comedy Festival team yesterday. Gillian Miller is one of my favourite people - perenially cheerful, incredibly creative and fiercely determined to make Liverpool's festival a world-ranked event.

This year's festival starts on Thursday and runs until June 24. The Echo is again offering media support to an evet which this year will feature Jimmy Carr, Tom O'Connor and the brilliant Pauline Daniels among its big names.

The Echo is lending particular backing to a Women-only night at the Royal Court Theatre on June 21 when six 'hunky' (Gillian's word not mine) male comics will perform for a 200-strong female audience.

The box office is on 0870 787 1866 or you can book online at the website.

I'm hoping to go to the Montreal Comedy Festival this year, which we will give me the opportunity to see at first hand what Liverpool aspires to.

Went with Harry, 14, to JJB to buy new Newcastle strip.

Morgan (4) said: 'Can I have one?'

'Yes', I said, getting one off the rack.

'No, not that one,' she yelled in a rage, 'a red LIVERPOOL ONE!'

What can you say? Born in Toxteth and not a single trophy in 50 years to wow her with?

No shirts in her size.

Shop said none in club shop either! What's going on?

I'm Alastair Machray, editor of the Liverpool Echo. I believe, I truly believe, it's Britain's best paper in Britain's best city. And I'm so proud to be here.

After 26 years is the business I'm happier than ever. Every morning I jump out of bed looking forward to work (well, mostly). Home? It's a war zone.
