Lovely lunch at the Town Hall with the new Lord Mayor Paul Clark and his charming wife Hilary.
Coun Clark is clearly passionate and determined in his new role and is anxious to leave Liverpool a better place when he departs office next May.

He feels he can make a difference in terms of inward investment by helping the agencies which procure it with demonstrable civic solidarity. He's shrewd enough to know the city still suffers from image problems and believes he can help.

Always a delight to visit the Town Hall - a beautiful place and one of the city's great assets.

Everyone had been telling me how glamorous the Lady Mayoress is. It's now official. She is.

Doctor's last night. Cardiac nurse pleased with me - lost weight and a month on the wagon. Business trip to New York and Montreal begins tomorrow - have to be careful not to undo all the good work.

Harry breaks up for the summer today. Major coughing episodes all night and, Lynne says, first thing this morning. He HAS had a rotten cough and cold. But could it be exacerbated by the fact that if he was off sick today he wouldn't be able to pick up his exam results and school report?

Lynne sent him in.
