the big apple brings back fond memories of my old Dad on his first flight abroad in the 70's, in fact his first trip abroad he was treated to a meal in the Windows of the world restaurant atop the World trade centre ( sadley now gone after 9,11) whilst waiting to be seated the Bell captain came over and in a Scouse accent asked where they were from, when he replied Southport Merseyside they were escorted to the best table in the place the Bell captain was thrilled to meet some folk from so near his home City, and wanted to hear the news of his beloved Red's, Dad never forgot the warm welcome and the Scouse hospitality so far from home

I'm Alastair Machray, editor of the Liverpool Echo. I believe, I truly believe, it's Britain's best paper in Britain's best city. And I'm so proud to be here.

After 26 years is the business I'm happier than ever. Every morning I jump out of bed looking forward to work (well, mostly). Home? It's a war zone.
