jan 16 2008 opening (3)

Some level of defence for the Scouse rapper at the 08 Opening ceremony at the Echo Arena.
Tommy Harris suggests that parody is parody and we shouldn't take things too seriously.

But Joe comments that he was an absolute embarrassment - as was the weekend in general. He even compares it to a Butlins-type show, which seems a little harsh.

Lots of anti-opening weekend stuff.

Surely there must be people out there who loved the whole thing?

Where are you?

We are working hard here to get optimum coverage of all the minor 08 events as well as the major ones.

Our backpack reporter (video, stills, words, they are all in her armoury and in her backpack) Sam Parker is covering anything and everything with an 08 connection.

If you have an event coming up, she'd be pleased to hear from you on 0151 4722407, or by email at samantha.parker@liverpool.com.

And check out our rapidly growing 08 info and entertainment at

liverpoolecho.co.uk/culture

And while we're on 08, how about the MTV Awards in November? How big will it be?

Mr Machray, you should be ashamed of your organisation for for covering up the many flaws in Everton's proposed stadium move to Kirkby.

You have a duty to report the facts to the masses.

I'm Alastair Machray, editor of the Liverpool Echo. I believe, I truly believe, it's Britain's best paper in Britain's best city. And I'm so proud to be here.

After 26 years is the business I'm happier than ever. Every morning I jump out of bed looking forward to work (well, mostly). Home? It's a war zone.
